D-III Boys’ Basketball

No. 2 St. Thomas 67, No. 7 Belmont 50

Key players: St. Thomas – Cole McClure (22 points), Will Mollica (17 points), James Allen (16 points); Belmont – Anakin Underhill (20 points), Keegan Martinez (13 points)

Highlights:  The visiting Raiders led 12-9 at the end of the first quarter and trailed by just one, 25-24, at halftime, but the Saints outscored Belmont 24-9 in the third quarter in Friday night’s quarterfinal to punch their tickets to the Division III semifinals.

Coach’s quote:  “I’m extremely proud with how my guys played. They played with pride and so much heart. St. Thomas is an extremely well-coached and fantastic team. You have to play 32 minutes of great basketball against them and have a little luck. In the third we just had some defensive lapses and they took advantage. We will take this loss and remember the feeling...with a lot of players back next season we will be ready to make a run.” – Belmont’s Tony Martinez

Highlights:  Pembroke came out the gate quickly, with Berkeley and Fitzgerald each scoring nine points in the first quarter for an early 24-11 lead and the pace of the game didn’t slow down in the second half.

Girls’ Basketball

Windham 62, Concord 54

Key players: Concord – Aidah Smalley (16 points), Delaney Duford (13 points, 8 rebounds), Sofia Payne (10 points), Whitney Vaillant (9 points)

Highlights: Wndham had the hotter hand in a back-and-forth battle that came right down to the end.

Bishop Brady 57, Kennett 30

Key players: Bishop Brady – Mia Wagner (16 points, four 3-pointers), Morgan Casey (17 points, 6 rebounds), Payton Bryson (10 points, 6 assists, 3 steals), Maia Dow (8 points), Abby Tyrell (4 points, great energy off the bench)

Highlights:  Before the game the Giants recognized their seniors – Wagner and Casey – for their four years of dedication to the Brady basketball program. The Giants got out to a first quarter lead and never looked back.

Coach’s quote:  “It was a full team effort tonight in a great senior night game for Mia and Morgan. Both of them played an outstanding game and I couldn’t be more happy for them. Pembroke 56, Milford 44

Key players: Pembroke – Annelise Dexter (38 points), Anne Phillips (6 points); Milford – Ellianna Nassy (13 points), Claire Cote (11 points), Shea Hansen (11 points)

Highlights: Dexter exploded for 38 points, including nine in the third quarter when Pembroke extended its lead to 11 heading into the final quarter.

Records: Pembroke 15-1; Milford 8-9

Oyster River 65, Coe-Brown 52

Key players: Oyster River – Vivian O’Quinn (14 points), Riley Drapeau (13 points); Coe-Brown – Hannah Meehan (18 points), Emma Lapierre (16 points)

Highlights: Oyster River took a 12-point lead into halftime, but Coe-Brown fought back to cut the deficit to as little as five points before the Bobcats pulled away again.
