Letter: Protect schools and taxpayers from delays and higher costs

As a Concord School District parent and taxpayer, I will be voting No on school charter amendments 1 and 2. These amendments could create delays in school renovations and construction, increase costs, and are unlikely to improve outcomes for Concord students or taxpayers. Amendment 1 offers no tangible benefit to voters. It’s unclear if it can reverse decisions already made, like the 2023 vote to build a new middle school at the Broken Ground site. If passed, it would likely lead to costly litigation and construction delays, driving up expenses. Additionally, the amendment does not apply to future schools or ensure long-term community input on projects.
Amendment 2 puts the school district at a disadvantage in real estate transactions. By requiring a public vote for any sale of property over an acre, the district may lose out on beneficial deals and be forced into higher costs or missed opportunities. Special elections would further strain taxpayer dollars. These amendments undermine the district’s ability to act efficiently and in the community’s best interest. Please vote No on Amendments 1 and 2.
