Letter: Thanksgiving is overlooked and undersold

Retailers having Black Friday right after under-promoting Thanksgiving, and the millions who feverishly go to it, which I never have, reported on news outlets, is a sign of their greediness, and it is fueled by the so-called Thanksgiving Day parade, which has no mention of thanking God as both Abraham Lincoln who made it a national holiday in his Thanksgiving proclamation, and George Washington who made his Thanksgiving proclamation first, meant for it to be celebrated as. Even the dictionary defines it as such. According to iask.ai, if retailers allocate half of their Thanksgiving merchandise towards Christians effectively, they stand to make an estimated $5 billion from this targeted approach, but for some reason, they don’t.
Now, let’s look at some signs of ungratefulness since Thanksgiving is coming up, because recognizing signs of ungratefulness can help in understanding and addressing the issue. The following list is from taskslayerz.com/ungrateful-people/. Rarely saying “thank you.” Feeling entitled to more. Never satisfied with what they have. Taking things for granted. Lack of appreciation for small gestures. Being self-centered. Dismissing acts of kindness. Neglecting to reciprocate kindness. Being critical or judgmental. Expressing dissatisfaction regularly. Resenting others’ success or happiness. Being materialistic. Rarely offering help to others. Preferring to receive rather than give. Ignoring the needs of others. Lacking humility. Demonstrating an attitude of superiority. If consumers, including Christians, remain silent and do not speak up when retailers under-promote Thanksgiving, and remain apathetic, what message does that send?
