The annual Concord Ski and Skate sale is moving again this year to a former Family Dollar in Penacook next to Constantly Pizza.

The Capital Ski & Outing Club will sell skis, snowboards, clothes and gear from vendors and direct from the community from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 108 Fisherville Road.

The club is still looking for volunteers to set up the sale, help customers find goods and clean up post-sale. People who would like to volunteer can sign up online or through the club’s Facebook page.

Gear for sale can be dropped off at the sale’s location from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5th, or between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6th.

Every year, the revenue from the sale goes to support winter activities and outdoor organizations. This year, the proceeds are destined for the Concord Crew & Rowing Club, the Concord High School Nordic ski team, the Bill Koch League youth ski organization, Ski The Beav, according to outing club board member Michael Wierwille.

Some of the funds gathered are for trail maintenance and grooming of the ski trails at White Farm and Beaver Meadow Golf Course.

“The ski sale is a great way for the community to find affordable ski equipment. Support local kids-focused organizations, support local nonprofit organizations,” he said.

Wierwille said the location of a ski sale has been a challenge for the past few years but the club is pleased to find a large central location. Last year’s location was the old Sears at the Steeplegate Mall, which is now being redeveloped, and displaced the sale.

“We literally call all local businesses and commercial real estate agents, and we’ll call cold call places and find anywhere that’s willing to rent us up to 10,000 square feet for a long weekend. So we got lucky,” Wierwille said.

The club’s mission is to help make skiing and winter sports more accessible for future generations. The equipment at the sale is sourced from individuals looking to offload old gear and from local ski businesses such as S&W Sports, Piche’s, Rodger’s Ski & Sport, and Plymouth Ski & Sport.

The popular sale provides customers the opportunity to acquire used or new winter sports goods at affordable prices.

“We can help to reduce barriers for local kids, and adults, to access the outdoors and play winter sports. We all know skiing can be expensive, so anything we can do to lower that cost is a great way to get more people involved,” said Wierwille. “And I also want to ensure that we highlight that thi s approach to re-using ski gear is more environmentally friendly.”
