Incumbent David Lovlien, a Republican, won the race against Democratic challenger David Doherty for County Commissioner of Merrimack County’s District 3.

Lovlien received 15,004 votes compared to Doherty’s 13,117. He has held the commissioner seat since 2022.

“Serving the people of Merrimack County in Concord is a privilege I cherish deeply. Having lived here nearly my entire life, it’s an honor to give back to this entire community,” Lovlien said.

County commissioners oversee the county’s budget, employees, departments, land, and buildings, including the nursing home, correctional facility, and farm. They lead county board meetings and work closely with the district’s state representatives, who also serve in the County Delegation.

District 3 encompasses Allenstown, Dunbarton, Epsom, Henniker, Hooksett, Hopkinton, Pembroke, and Pittsfield.

In addition to working as a commissioner, Lovlien runs his own real estate business and volunteers with the Kiwanis Club and other nonprofits in his free time.

Thinking about his second term, which will last for four years, Lovlien hopes to continue working toward a lean budget and low taxes.

“With the election behind us, it’s time to put aside our differences and come together as Grantite Staters,” he added. “I believe in a longer table with more seats so everyone can come together to make their voices heard.”
