An 82-year-old woman from Candia was distracted by the heat controls in her vehicle when she crossed the centerline on Hooksett Road, causing a double-fatal head-on crash Tuesday, according to police.

Irene Roby was traveling south in a Nissan Rogue at 5:40 a.m. Tuesday, when her vehicle collided with a Hyundai Kona driven north by Tammy Ortiz, 52, of Manchester. The collision occurred just south of the town line with Allenstown.

Roby and Ortiz and a passenger in the Hyundai were all transported to the hospital, but both drivers succumbed to their injuries. A passenger in the Hyundai remains hospitalized with serious injuries, police said Thursday.

“The Hooksett Crash Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate, with their initial findings that the collision was caused by Roby being distracted by her heat controls inside the vehicle,” police said in a statement.
