Key players: Gilford-Belmont – Anakin Underhill (129 rush yards, TD; 2-for-5 passing, 20 yards, INT), Hutch Haskins (106 rush yards), Zakk Ober (interception)

Highlights:  Kennett scored a touchdown in the first and second quarters before Ober’s interception helped set up Underhill’s touchdown with two minutes left in the first half. Gilford-Belmont had a fourth and goal on the Kennett 2 yard line late in the fourth quarter, but Kennett stopped the run short of the goal line and killed the clock to secure the season-opening victory. Sanborn 28, Bow 14

Key players: Sanborn –  Brandon Sarette (11-for-17, 231 passing yards, 3 TD), Ben Cardoso (6 receptions for 167 yards, 3 TD); Bow – Brady Lover (TD pass), Ryan McCabe (5 yard TD catch), Caleb Schumacher (5 yard TD run), Jared Dolder (2-for-2 PAT)

Highlights:  Lover tossed a touchdown pass in the second quarter of his first varsity start and Schumacher ran in a short TD in the fourth quarter, but Sanborn’s explosive passing game lifted the Indians to victory.

Coach’s quote:  “Perennially, an opening game is often rife with mistakes, and today was no exception.  Despite some explosive offensive play, and a solid goal line stand, we were unable to eclipse an earlier deficit.  With a young team, I’ve no doubt they will learn from this, and progress as the autumn continues.” – Bow’s Paul Cohen
