High schools: Kearsarge-Plymouth overcomes 3-1 deficit for season-opening win, defending champs Belmont-Gilford lose

Kearsarge-Plymouth 4, John Stark-Hopkinton/Hillsboro-Deering 3

Key players: K-P – Ryder Francis (game-winning goal), Charlie Cushing (2 assists); JSHHD – Trey Travers

Highlights: The Cats trailed 3-1 heading into the third period, but Kearsarge-Plymouth scored three goals in a 1:18 span early in the third period, capped by the first career goal for freshman Francis, to give the Cats a 4-3 lead. Kearsarge-Plymouth had four different goal scorers in the season-opening victory.

Coach’s quote: “We entered the third period trailing 3-1, but we remained composed and the boys were fresh as we had been rolling three lines of forwards the first two periods. Early in the third (all three lines) quickly added a goal each to give us the lead.” – Kearsarge-Plymouth’s Justin Garzia

Kingswood 3, Belmont-Gilford 1

Key players: Kingswood – James Rogers (goal), Devin McEvoy (goal), Austin Emerson (goal); Belmont-Gilford – Evan Guerin (goal) 

Highlights: The Bulldogs had a 1-0 lead after the first period thanks to a goal from Guerin, but the Knights scored twice in the second period and added an empty-netter in the third to hand the defending champions a loss on opening night.
