Girls’ Soccer

Hillsboro-Deering 4, Newfound 0

Key players: H-D – Kathryn Thyng (3 goals, assist), Faith Daley (goal), Emery Greene (assist), Emma Davis (2 assists), Alexis Laporte (9 saves)

Highlights: Senior captain Thyng played a part in all four gals to lead the Hillcats to their first win of the season. Daley scored her first career goal. Alexis Laporte received her second career shut out.

Highlights: The Hawks scored two goals on set pieces in a good back-and-forth game on a wet surface.

Highlights: Wells earned medalist honors to lead the Hawks to a pair of big victories at Nippo Lake. Hopkinton is currently ninth in the Division IV standings, one spot out of qualifying for the state championship, and will need to pick up more wins in the final two matches of the regular season this week.

Coach’s quote: “Our best result of the year. We finally broke 70. Obviously, I’m super proud of Coley and his personal best 22 points (40 strokes). His almost hole-in-one on the ninth won him the match on a challenging Nippo course. We’re also happy for Tommy who had a (personal record) nine points. A big final week for the Hawks has started off strong.” – Hopkinton’s Ted Wells

Field Hockey

Merrimack Valley 5, Milford 0

Key players: MV – Izzy Tucker (2 goals, 2 assists), Alyssa Brodeur (2 goals, assist), Kaiya Mercier (goal, assist), Lenna Quitter (defense), Lauren Bailey (midfield), Abbey Thompson (midfield), Julia Michael (midfield)

Highlights: Tucker scored twice in the first quarter to give the Pride an early lead. Brodeur added to the lead off a rebound off the goalie to increase the lead to 3-0 at halftime. Mercier and Brodeur each scored in the third quarter from aggressive play in the circle. MV held the advantage in penalty corners (9-0) and shots on goals (18-0). Milford’s goalie had 14 saves.

Coach’s quote: “This was a good team win. It was nice to get back to attacking in the circle after we were held scoreless on Saturday. All lines worked well together today, and we got the job done.” – MV’s Jen Colgan
