High school tennis: Bishop Brady girls, Kearsarge boys open seasons with 7-2 victories

Girls’ Tennis

Bishop Brady 7, Conant 2

Key players: Bishop Brady – Laura Yap (8-1 win at No. 2), Abby Michie (8-1 win at No. 3), Maddie Cole-Tucker (8-2 win at No. 4), Avery Sahr (8-1 win at No. 5), Berta Paniego-Hernandez (9-7 win at No. 6)

Highlights: Paniego-Hernandez was down 7-4 in her singles match, but fought back to tie it 7-7 and finished off a 9-7 victory. Paniego-Hernandez and Sahr also won their No. 3 doubles match, 8-3, while Yap and Cole-Tucker teamed up for an 8-0 victory at second doubles on their home court.

Boys’ Tennis

Kearsarge 7, St. Thomas 2

Key players: Kearsarge –  Liam Miller (won singles and doubles), Graham West (won singles and doubles), Thomas Shepherd (won singles and doubles), Eli Whipple (won singles match), Bill Reid (won singles match)

Highlights: The Cougars took a 5-0 lead through singles, and Miller and Davis West (No. 1 doubles) and Shepherd and Graham West (No. 2 doubles) capped the season-opening win with two more victories.
