Kearsarge senior Liam Miller was the top area tennis player at the state boys’ singles tournament which was held last week, reaching the semifinals.

Miller, the seventh seed, defeated Salem’s Brendan Lynn (8-4), Bow sophomore Milo Cocola (8-6) and No. 4 Sam Ames of Hanover (8-5) to reach the final four before falling to No. 1 and eventual champion Alex Molda of St. Thomas (6-0, 6-4).

Miller also advanced the furthest in the state doubles tournament with partner Graham West, also a senior. The pair defeated Manchester Central’s Nick Chiesa and Nate Bannister (8-3) in the first round, but fell to Dover’s Diego Lopez and Nathan Bigelow (8-4) in the second round.

Lopez and Bigelow defeated Bishop Bishop sophomore Teddy Yap and senior Ben Matseas (8-3) in the first round.

Cocola was the only other area player to make it through the opening round of singles, defeating Monadnock’s Jedidiah Nelson (8-5).

West lost to Aaron Molda of St. Thomas (8-2) in the first round.

None of the area players in the girls’ singles tournament made it through the first round of the bracket with Kearsarge freshman Tucker Dragon losing to Portsmouth’s Aia Tracz (8-4), and Bishop Brady seniors Avery Sahr and Anya Koshy falling to Nashua North’s Mary Pappas (8-0) and Timberlane’s Abigail Robinson (8-1), respectively.

Koshy and Sahr were swept by Salem’s Molly Mosto and Mia Contarino (8-0) in the opening round of doubles.
