Students from middle and high schools around the state performed music at the New Hampshire State House to mark Music in Our Schools Month.

Student choirs, bands, orchestras, wind ensembles and jazz bands from Weare, Manchester, Plymouth, Derry, Moultonborough, Windham, Amherst and Auburn showcased their repertoire in Concord. The event was organized by the New Hampshire Music Educators’ Association.

Music in Our Schools Month is a national celebration of music education, which is led by the National Association for Music Education to raise awareness of the importance of teaching music to children in schools. Governor Chris Sununu signed a proclamation Feb. 21, declaring March as “Music In Our Schools Month” in the state of New Hampshire.

“It’s great to know that so many creative and talented students have the chance to enrich their musical talents in schools throughout New Hampshire,” said Ed Doyle, president of the New Hampshire Music Educators’ Association. “We offer thanks to Governor Sununu for his proclamation.”
