Site work has begun in the first phase of construction of a mixed-use project off Manchester Street and Black Hill Road in Concord. 

The development, once complete, would include 385 housing units, commercial space for retail stores, a restaurant, gas station, a  bank and a car wash. This first phase of construction does not include any housing.

Around two years after it was initially proposed, the project got conditional and preliminary approvals from the Planning Board in December, and the bank and gas station got the greenlight earlier this year. Work to prepare the site for those two locations began earlier this month.

Housing, which includes five multi-family apartment buildings with 266 units, and 119 total senior-specific residences, will need further planning board sign-off before it can begin as part of the second phase. When housing could go online as part of this project is unclear. Ari Pollack, a lawyer representing the project, did not return a request for comment.
