On a cloud-covered and cooler than usual September Saturday, 15 teams of golfers descended upon the Den Brae Golf Course to raise funds for Newfound Babe Ruth Baseball. Ron Bucklin and Floyd Colby, from which the tournament is named, were both big parts of Newfound Baseball, helping to coach teams and further establish the league. Ron’s son, Tom Bucklin is the Event Organizer, and started the tournament in honor of his father. Floyd Colby, hit the ceremonial 1st shot of the tournament, with a solid drive straight down the fairway.

“The event was well attended and well run, -a lot of people bought raffle tickets and it was a great time where we raised a lot of money to help with capital improvements to the ball fields. We want to thank all our sponsors, players, and anyone who donated items and a big thanks to Den Brae Golf Course,” said Event Organizer, Tom Bucklin.

Highlights of the day included Marilyn Bucklin’s Brownies at Hole 3, and an Eagle on Hole 2 from Tapply-Thompson Community Center’s Assistant Director Dan MacLean’s Team. Dan’s son, Tyler MacLean, hit a solid 3-wood that landed on the green, where teammate John Francis took over and sank an over 30- foot putt for the 2 stroke Eagle. Team Nixon won the day, with a score of 57 or -15, with Team Nyberg coming in second with a score of 60 or -12 under par. Team Gilson placed third with a score of 62 and -10 under par. Team Bourbeau took home the “See the Light” honors with 4 spotlights as prizes to help the ‘last placed’ players see the course a little better next time.

The TTCC would also like to send a big Thank You to all our volunteers that helped us run another successful golf tournament. We are so very fortunate to be surrounded by an amazing community that really steps up time and time again, Thank you for your support!
