Meredith The Grace Marie Wallace Quartet

On Oct. 5, Grace Marie Wallace returns for her second performance at Hermit Woods, 72 Main St., in Meredith with her quartet. At her previous performance at the Loft, Grace received standing ovations for her smart, thoughtful, and emotional renditions of jazz and movie selections not often heard in the standard repertoire. Grace was born and raised in Worcestershire, England, and started studying classical piano and flute at age 11. After moving to the US, she became involved with the Interplay Jazz & Arts organization, where she discovered her love for Jazz vocals. Arrive early for a complimentary wine tasting from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Dinner and drinks are served from 6 to 7 p.m. The bar remains open during the show. Tickets are available at hermitwood.com/the-loft.

Concord NH author Thomas Fisher

On Oct. 12, at 6:30 p.m. at Gibson’s Bookstore, on 45 South Main Street, in Concord, NH author Thomas Fisher presents “Gifts from Prometheus,” a true journey into his family’s past. A moving and compelling personal story of discovery concerning his family’s roots and his recounting of his grandfather’s life as a Black man “passing” in mid-century Boston. The book helped Fisher understand – now with a stakeholder’s perspective - the realities of race in America. It forced him to confront his childhood complicity in bigotry - and challenged half-truths we were taught about the righteousness of the North on matters of race. By discovering the unknown heroes in our family history people of character and honor – he finally came to understand the redemptive power of family. No registration required for this event.
