The Concord Christian Academy boys’ basketball team kept things close on the first night of the NHIAA Division IV season, heading into halftime tied at 25-25, but the Kingsmen ultimately fell on the road to the Portsmouth Christian Academy Eagles, 51-47.
CCA led 11-8 after the first quarter before the Eagles tied the game in the second quarter and took a 38-35 heading into the final frame.
Junior guard Jaden Young led the Kingsmen with 11 points on 3-for-8 shooting from 3-point range. Senior Noah Lockhart (10 points), junior Isaac Kirby (nine points) and senior Isaac Bowers (seven points) were the other main contributors on offense.
Connor Hickey led PCA with 19 points.
“It was a close game that could have gone either way,” Concord Christian head coach Greg Farland said. “You never like to lose, but to almost beat a top team like PCA when the season is young and you are nowhere near your ceiling is very encouraging.”
The Kingsmen next take the floor on Tuesday at Mascenic, the Vikings’ first game of the season.
While the PCA boys stayed home, the Eagles girls’ team traveled to Pittsfield, claiming a decisive victory over the Panthers.
Chelsee Chagnon (11 points) and Addie Clark (six points) led the Panthers, while Ava Buchanan dropped 36 points for the Eagles.
Pittsfield plays at Sunapee (0-1) on Tuesday.
