More NH Rite Aid stores slated to close following bankruptcy — but none in Concord

No Rite Aid stores in Concord are among those slated to close after the national drugstore chain declared bankruptcy — but their demise seems only a matter of time.

Rite Aid on Thursday released the latest list of locations it will definitely shut, bringing the number of shuttered stores in New Hampshire up to 14 out of 46 total. A store in Pittsfield was the closest to Concord.

Even stores throughout the state that are not on the list, however, appear to be gearing up to close, with shelves beginning to empty as Rite-Aid stops receiving some types of shipments.

Prescriptions are still being filled, but patients are urged to begin the process of finding a new pharmacy. Rite Aid said in a company statement last month that it has “entered into a series of sale agreements and pharmacy service transition agreements,” enabling the transfer of patient accounts.

It’s not clear what will happen with the store buildings themselves after they close; some may be bought by other pharmacy chains.

Rite Aid filed for voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last month. The Pennsylvania-based firm has struggled financially for years and emerged from its first bankruptcy filing in 2023.
